The Family Reunions Project (FRP) seeks to put immersive media technology to work for undocumented families.
We have use virtual reality, augmented reality, volumetric capture, photogrammetry, and 360-video to create tailored “virtual postcards” for undocumented families.
These “virtual postcards” allow undocumented immigrants to reunite with loved ones abroad, experience their hometowns with 360-video, and walk around photo-realistic 3D replicas of the homes they left behind.
Virtual reality is not the solution . Our public work brings attention to the plight of forced family separation.
Opening a world of possibilities.
VR’s most promising feature is its ability to transport.
For those who wonder about the worlds their parents fled from, those who long to revisit childhood homes, or those who can never return home, VR presents a way to connect to personal history.
